Biggin Hill International Air Fair

26-27 June 2010

For the 48th time, the iconic airfield at Biggin Hill hosted the International Air Fair in 2010, one of the world’s most famous airshows and a cornerstone of the UK airshow season, within sight of London. As it turned out, this was to be last air fair at Biggin Hill, as the airport management cancelled the contract with the organizers shortly after the show. But did the organizers go out in style!

Make sure to play videos in high definition (720) and full screen for maximum effect.

With its important role in the Battle of Britain, the 70th anniversary of the battle was of course the centerpiece of the display, but apart from a large warbird setpiece, the show featured some of the best modern civilian display acts as well as modern military contribution from the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, Belgium, France and Poland.

A wonderful summer sun, certainly on Sunday, helped bring enormous crowds to the show. One of the things that will be missed at Biggin Hill is the wonderful showground lay-out, with an almost unobstructed crowdline and a trade and fun fair positioned well towards the back.

By coincidence, on Sunday, England was playing against Germany in the world cup football during the Battle of Britain commemoration. This game was shown live on the jumbo screen, which certainly added to the proceedings among the public.

This is a show that will be sorely missed on the calendar!
